Genjutsu Ranks:
Genjutsu works by affecting the target’s mind, typically manipulating one of the five main senses of sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch. Others can affect the target's memory. Some techniques focus on only one while the more advanced affect some or all. The number of senses the technique affects determines the rank of the genjutsu:
D-Rank: 2 Senses
C-Rank: 3 Senses
B-Rank: 4 Senses
A-Rank: 5 Senses
S-Rank: +5 Senses
Genjutsu are not universally restricted by the number of senses affected. This means that there cannot be a C-Rank technique that affects 5 senses---but there can be a technique of A-Rank that only affects 2 senses.
Awareness and Defense:
Users attempting to defend against genjutsu via Gensou Kaijo may only dissipate illusions up to their rank in Chakra Control. For instance, an opponent that has 10,000 Chakra Control may defend against all illusionary techniques at B-Rank and below. At this level of control, the affected also has the awareness to recognize techniques at or below their rank. However, techniques at their level will prove more difficult than those below it.
Aside from Gensou Kaijo, the user may be released by receiving from an ally an amount of chakra equal to the cost of the technique affecting them. Another way is to inflict pain on one’s self to bring their senses back to.
